神韵艺术团是享誉国际的中国传统舞蹈乐团,表演者在世界各地巡演,资产超过2.65亿美元。但纽约时报15日刊登调查报导,指神韵将表演者视为可牺牲的消耗品。纽约时报采访25名前舞者、乐手和指导老师,发现神韵的表演者受伤后经常被劝阻不要就医,而且往往工时长、工资低,还受到精神虐待和操纵。对此,神韵方面称遭抹黑。
神韵成立于2006年,号称「复兴与弘扬中国5000年正统神传文化」。神韵成立目的被指是为了传播法轮功的教义。李洪志于1992年在中国创办法轮功,流亡美国期间和妻子掌管纽约州北部一座占地160公顷的园区龙泉寺,多数神韵演员都在那里生活和训练。
纽约时报报导指出,许多表演者说,出于对李洪志的崇敬,他们把自己推向极限。他们把李洪志视为成永生神和宇宙的创造者。
但却有表演者自称落入被虐待、被操纵的世界。根据前团员提供照片和录音,神韵领导层近20年来的一系列虐待行为被曝光。团员称每天工作15小时,包括排练、表演和安装设备,大多数在25岁前月薪不足1000美元,有的甚至没有工资。对此,管理方称他们欠下法轮功代付的学费、食宿等费用。
据了解,神韵实行封闭式管理,青少年表演者多由家长(法轮功修炼者)送来,没有特别许可,学员们不能离开学校,通常只能在一年一次、为期两周的暑假期间见到父母。而这些学员所接触的音乐、电影、书籍、新闻都须审核。他们经常一天演出两场,被告知舞台上的任何失误可能导致观众下地狱。表演者想要退出,会遭到恐吓下地狱,以及须偿还学费。
有一名表演者说,当他们生病或受伤时,教员告诉他们,这表明他们的精神领域出了问题。受伤的表演者被鼓励 「发正念」(李洪志规定的冥想技巧),以便痊愈。另有前舞者们说,他们忍着膝盖骨脱臼、脚踝扭伤和其他伤痛进行表演,因为不想被批评对李洪志不够虔诚。
对于纽时的上述报导,神韵和法轮功的代表在一份声明中表示,接受采访的表演者是一个「心怀不满的小群体」, 他们对该舞团和宗教运动的描述是「以怪异和夸张的方式」歪曲的现实。
